Signal Loss follows a series of solitary walks along Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge during a period of personal transition. Moving through an environment crowded with advertisements, institutional signage, traffic signals, storefronts, and handwritten notices, I became increasingly aware of the volume of messages competing for my attention. The street seemed oversaturated with information—continually addressing commuters and pedestrians, yet increasingly disconnected from the people moving through it.
Arranged as a sequence, the photographs trace a gradual loss of signal. Words and instructions that initially appear direct become less distinct, receding into the surrounding architecture and crowds of people until they read only as visual noise. As daylight fades, the messages begin to disappear with it. Night offers relief from the accumulation of stimuli, and the public environment becomes quieter, emptier, and more inward-facing.
